IMG_7088All Girls.  I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  What I experienced was just the sweetest time.

Like all camps, I start out introducing two things.  The first, being that God the creator of all things made us in his image.  Therefore, we create along with Him.  It is fun to make art.  It is fun to bless with it.  And, next I introduce the art history part of camp.  This particular camp focused on Wayne Thiebaud and his famous cakes.

Journals. Cakes. Icing.  Girls.  What a perfect mix.

We sketched. We planned. We learned a few layering techniques.

And then this magical thing happens- every single time- the campers begin the conversation.  It opens up after the first popsicle is cut for a break.  And it makes a teachers heart melt.  The conversation begins its own kind of song with the back ground of birds singing and fragrant honeysuckle, blackberry blossoms and false orange lifting on the morning breeze.

This conversation could not happen quiet the same way with boys hanging about- I over heard things like, “I really love your cake.”  “I wish we could cut slices and eat it.”  ” You made your icing look real.” ” I like how you decorated your cake with flowers.”  The hearts of these girls came shining through in their gentleness with each other.  And all I can think of is “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

Art in the backyard- the sweetest.
